Mindfulness and Anxiety

Whoa, what a crazy week of weather it’s been in Denver! From snow to freezing hail to perfect 80-degree days of sunshine, we’ve run quite the gamut! Spring has sprung, it seems, and with it, the most unpredictable weather of the Colorado year.

Spring can bring a breath of fresh air after the long, dark days of winter – specifically for women dealing with anxiety. Being cooped up inside and not able to expose ourselves to sunshine (and with it, healthy doses of vitamin D and serotonin mood-boosting rays) can take a toll on our bodies and our moods. A lot of women find themselves getting outside more, walking in the evenings while it’s still light outside, and hence generally feeling better.

Some women, however, have the opposite experience. With spring can come allergies and an overall adjustment to the pollen levels, leading to stuffy heads, foggy brains and lots of sneezing. We’re all different, but two things we know that can help lower anxiety levels are practicing mindfulness, and anxiety counseling. Simple mindful exercises like walking, meditation, breath practice and yoga can vastly improve our sense of connection to our bodies, increase clarity of thought, an improve energy levels. One of our favorite yoga studios here at Root is Samadhi Yoga in Denver. With classes nearly every hour or two starting around 5 am to 8 pm, even the busiest can gal can find some options to squeeze in to a tight schedule!

As much as yoga and mindfulness can help decrease the physical and mental symptoms of anxiety, often we need to get to the root cause of the anxiety – and that is our JAM. At Root we specialize in anxiety counseling for the amazing women of Denver, using evidence-based techniques to help our clients find lasting relief. If you’re looking for an anxiety therapist in Denver, we’d love to come alongside you and help you find your path to greater calm, ease and peace!
