Women and Anxiety

WHOA it’s suddenly spring in Denver, ladies! Walking through Cherry Creek today I saw the first tree of the season I’ve seen in bloom…hard to believe that winter is already on its way out!

One of my favorite things about the warmer weather coming is that I get to start holding what I call “walk in the park” sessions with clients, where we meet outside and have our session together while we’re moving. For women dealing with anxiety, this is especially helpful because the physical act of moving (and the left-right rhythm of stepping) has been proven to actually help calm our nervous systems. It’s also just nice to be outside in the fresh air, and moving can actually help us find new ways of thinking about a problem or situation.

While many anxiety symptoms are the same between men and women, some are not. Women can experience anxiety in the following ways:

  • Specific times of the month where anxiety feels higher due to our cycles and hormonal changes
  • A feeling of needing to be “perfect” and not “rock the boat”
  • Heart palpitations or a racing heart that can be scary
  • Difficulty sleeping, ESPECIALLY if we’re already sleep-deprived from caring for a new baby or young children
  • Increasing pressure to ‘manage it all’ – home life, kids, our work
  • Experiencing a constant feeling of failure and a never-ending ‘to-do’ list

If any of this sounds like you, know that anxiety counseling tailored specifically for women can help! Give us a call at (720) 363-9188 or Book Online Here! You don’t have to suffer alone, and you don’t have to feel miserable right as the longer and warmer days are beckoning us outside.
