Trying New Things and Getting Uncomfortable!

One of the best ways to break out of our old, familiar routines and shake things up a bit is to try something new. Recently, some of us at Root have branched out into experimenting with new types of learning: dance classes; cooking classes; and for me recently – Kundalini yoga.

Kundalini is unlike any other form of yoga I’ve practiced…really, it feels much more like meditation, mindfulness and breath work than yoga. And y’all… it was FREAKIN’ HARD. Sitting for long periods of time and moving through exercises designed to help us process and shift our thoughts and emotional is no joke. Strong emotions come up, we feel uncomfortable, we want to STOP, to do anything else, to run away, to hide. Really it’s a lot like life can feel sometimes. Except we try and stay. We sit. We notice the feelings and allow them to move through us.

And that…THAT is powerful. There’s a sweetness on the other side of allowing discomfort to just BE without jumping to run from it, avoid it, get out of it. We find that we can do hard things. We find clarity. We become less reactive in our daily lives; more able to move through challenging situations with intention, more peace, more consciousness. For those of us women that deal with anxiety, learning how to do this can be immensely helpful. This is a lot of what we teach clients how to do in anxiety counseling and women’s counseling here at Root in Denver. We LOVE helping women get rid of anxiety and find peace.

Kundalini yoga (and really ANY yoga practice) is a great supplement to working with a trained therapist and can massively help relieve anxiety! If you’re suffering through high anxiety during these stressful times, give us a call at (720) 363-9188 or Book Online Now. You may also consider trying something outside of your comfort zone! We’ve got a lovely Kundalini yoga center right here in Denver.

Blessings,

Root xo
